What is the Safeguarding Children Board?
It is made up of a group of representatives from each of the services in Telford & Wrekin which have a responsibility towards children and young people; i.e. those under 18.
What does it do?
- the Board encourages and supports all of the services to work together to try to make sure that children and young people in the Telford & Wrekin Borough are healthy and safe and can grow up successfully
- where some children or young people have extra needs or are more vulnerable than others, it asks the services to look more closely at those needs and to try to do something to meet them
- the Board takes a special interest in children or young people who might be harmed by things happening in their family, such as family members hurting each other or using illegal drugs; and also in those children who are being harmed by people from outside of their family.
What does it want to achieve?
It would like to see every child or young person in Telford & Wrekin staying safe and being as healthy as possible. It would like them to enjoy being young and to feel that they are able to achieve things that interest them and help them to grow up. It hopes that they, when they can, will help others to achieve those things too and, finally, it wants all children and young people to grow up to be happy and successful adults.
Finally, please note that the Board is not accountable for the work of individual organisations and each Board partner retains their own lines of accountability. The Board does not have a power to direct other organisations to undertake particular tasks or work programmes. However all organisations have duties towards children and young people in Telford & Wrekin and are held accountable for these duties.
