Dental Practitioners and Dental Care Professionals
Dental practitioners and DCPs are likely to identify injuries to the head, neck, face, mouth and teeth, as well as identifying other child welfare concerns. They should be aware of the guidance "Child Protection and the Dental Team – an Introduction to Safeguarding Children in Dental Practice [2006]" available from www.cpdt.org.uk They must also be familiar with these procedures.
All Dental Practitioners and DCP’s will be expected to undertake Child Protection training on a regular basis, approximately 3 yearly, to ensure that they are aware of how to refer cases to the Helpdesk and who to contact as a named professional in the Trust.
