Prisons
Prisons fall within the general remit of the National Offender Management Service.
Prison Governors or Directors are required to ensure that the functions of the prison are discharged in a way which safeguards and promotes the welfare of children. This duty applies to the care of young people committed to custody, children in a "Mother and Baby" unit and the protection of children visiting the establishment, both in terms of the emotional impact for the child and the need to safeguard the child from "grooming" activities while in the establishment.
Working Together to Safeguard Children has information contained in chapter 2 which applies to these situations.
