Initial Child Protection Conference - the meeting
Professionals attending the Initial Child Protection Conference are referred to paragraph 5.91 of “Working Together to Safeguard Children” in respect of their preparation for that conference and the provision, in advance, of written reports.
A leaflet for Parents and Carers can be read in the document library. This should be made available prior to the Conference to those who require it.
The Conferencing and Reviewing Officer appointed to chair the Initial Conference will manage the meeting in a way which is sensitive to the needs of those who will be attending. In particular the Chair will take account of any issues arising from the particular circumstances of the participants. Advice and information is available in the "Particularly Vulnerable Children" section of these procedures.
The Chair will decide on whether or not some participants will be excluded for any part of the Conference. Advice is available on this matter in the document library section of these procedures.
The Chair will ensure that the business of the Conference follows the prescribed agenda also available in the document library.
In cases where the Chair requires legal advice, the protocol (see document library) between the Safeguarding Advisory Service and Legal Services will be followed.
